Sealants
A dental sealant is a thin protective coating that bonds to the grooves of the back teeth.
After a sealant has been placed, it keeps food out of the dental grooves and stops bacteria and acid from settling on your teeth. In fact, sealants have been shown to reduce the risk of decay by nearly 80% in molars.
How are sealants applied?
It is a quick and painless procedure and requires no anesthesia. We start by cleaning your teeth first to remove all plaque/debris from the grooves of the teeth. Then we apply an acidic gel on the teeth. After a few seconds, we will rinse off the gel and dry the tooth before applying the sealant onto the grooves of the teeth. After it has been placed, we will then use a blue light to harden the sealant.
How long to sealants last?
Sealants will last for several years before they need to be reapplied under normal circumstances (no ice chewing or excessive grinding). During your regular dental visit, we will check the condition of the sealant and can reapply them as needed.
