Nightguards

Are you waking up with jaw pain, headaches or earaches? Or, do you find yourself clenching or grinding your teeth? If so, you may have a very common condition called Bruxism. The majority of the population do not know they even grind their teeth, as it often occurs while sleeping. If not corrected, Bruxism can lead to cracked teeth, broken teeth, and in many cases, tooth loss.

Nightguards do not stop you from clenching or grinding your teeth. Their purpose is to serve as a protective barrier. Instead of wearing down on your teeth, it wears on the nightguard itself.

Nightguards also give your jaw a rest which is very helpful in people who have “TMJ”, otherwise known as temporomandibular Dysfunction of the joint (TMD).

TMJ~TMD can have multiple causes. The most common are

Bruxism- grinding of teeth which causes Attrition
Dislocation of the disc within the joint
Injury to the jaw
Arthritis

Athletic mouthguards

Protecting your teeth while playing sports is essential. Mouth guards help protect your teeth and gums from injury. If you participate in any kind of full-contact sport, the American Dental Association recommends that you wear a mouth guard.

Choosing the right mouth guard is essential. There are three basic types of mouth guards: the pre-made mouth guard, the “boil and bite” fitted mouth guard, and a custom-made mouth guard from your dentist. When you choose a mouth guard, be sure to pick one that is tear-resistant, comfortable and well-fitted for your mouth, easy to clean, and does not prevent you from breathing properly.

Mouthguards can be customized with stickers and team logos, and are available in a variety of colors to fit the personality of every star athlete in your practice!
