Development of Primary (Baby) Teeth

The image below is the general chronology of when baby teeth erupt vs when they are lost. It is important to note that baby teeth are very important in a child’s health and overall development.
Baby teeth help children chew, smile, and speak. They also hold the space for permanent teeth. If a baby tooth is prematurely lost, whether by trauma or by decay, the space held by the baby tooth is also prematurely lost.
If a tooth is prematurely lost, a space maintainer is required in order to hold the space in place until the permanent tooth is ready to erupt.
If you have any questions about your child’s teeth, don’t hesitate to give us a call and schedule an appointment!
